Finasteride 5mg is known by many brand names. It is a medication prescribed for the treatment of pattern baldness in men and prostate cancer. This is an approved medication for treating male pattern baldness. It is available in tablet form. It basically works by strengthening the roots of the hair and boosting hair growth.
Finasteride 5mg works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is responsible for BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) as well as hair loss. Proscar is prescribed for the treatment of BPH (better known as enlarged prostate). It is also effective in reducing hair loss resulting from male pattern baldness.
How to Use
Prior to using Finasteride, you need to make an appointment with your doctor to discuss the treatment. Your doctor should know if you have liver disease. If this is the case, you may not be able to use the drug or your dose may have to be reduced for the best results. Special monitoring will also be needed.
You should take the medication exactly as prescribed. Each dose has to be taken with plenty of water. Take the medication regularly to achieve the best results.
During treatment, blood tests and regular monitoring may be needed. The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is a common test that will be performed to help detect prostate cancer. The use of the medication will reduce the levels of PSA in your blood.
