Dapoxetine is a drug engineered to treat premature ejaculation. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that works by increasing the intra-vaginal ejaculatory latency time. You take the drug ‘as needed’ and not on a daily basis as it is the case with other medications for premature ejaculation. It is recommended to take the drug at least three hours before engaging in sexual activity.
To determine the right dosage for you, you have to talk to your doctor for advice. An individual needs to be assessed accordingly to determine the best prescription.
How to Use
Before you start using Dapoxetine, inform your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- History of fainting
- Allergic or sensitivity to ingredients contained in this drug
- Kidney or liver problems
- Have erectile dysfunction
- Use medication that causes vasodilation such as nitrates or alpha adrenergic antagonists
- You use cytochrome inhibitoes like saquinavir, nelfinavir or itraconazole
- Are over 65 years of age
- Experience bleeding or blood clotting problems
- Have heart or circulation problems
The starting dose for Dapoxetine is 30mg. The does has to be taken within 1 to 3 hours before engaging in sexual activity. To prevent adverse side effects, your doctor may reduce the dose. Always consult your primary healthcare provider before you start taking Dapoxetine.
Never take more than one dose of Dapoxetine a day. The medication should also be taken only when needed. You should also make appointments with your prescriber after 6 doses to review how your body is responding to the treatment.
If you feel the medication is not working, never take larger or smaller doses than recommended. Contact your prescriber for advice. You must also heed to the instructions on the pharmacy label.
